Poverty fosters Crime ?
We live in a strange world where the rich walk miles to digest food and the poor walk miles to get foodPoverty is defined as a general scarcity or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material, possessions or money. It is surely one of the worst problems faced by every country of the globe. Through the years, efforts have been made to battle this on going phenomena but the victory seems far away. As the problem grows, it not only is making itself large, rather, its affecting all the problems occurring in the world.
There are many factors leading to poverty, which are interconnected to each other, these mainly include :-
1) Lack of Education 2) Ill Health
3) Unemployment 4) Over Population
5) Size of Family 6) Being a member of a Backward community
7) Inequality in Opportunities 8) Historical Reasons
9) Corruption
Given the above factors, a normal person can do anything to overcome them and the path that he chooses doesn't always have to be the right one, Although there are instances where people have triumphed, but that ratio remains negligible.
Illiteracy is something that every country is suffering from, the level of suffering varies from country to country, state to state, city to city and from person to person. It is education that enables a person to make sound decisions for himself, and allows him to progress.
The above mentioned factors are related to one another, for example, when a person is unemployed but has a big family; poverty prevails. And this unemployment itself is the result of over population and this might not have occurred if people were educated, but then again they would be educated if they weren't poor. Next we see inequality in opportunities, this mainly and usually occurs when a person is treated unjust. We all know, a person can only be treated unequal when he doesn't have the same status as the other, example being the people of the backward class, now they themselves did not lead a lowly life, many historic reasons have played a big part; the caste system being the heart of the problem. As the world has progressed, the rich have become richer while the state of the poor remains same, the very reason being corruption at every level of government, institutes, etc. After doing quite a bit of research I have affirmed my suspicion of all these acts being connected. Now, we can't really put the blame at corruption and leave it at that but we have to go even deeper and it would really amaze you how much results a little research can give.
It's pretty obvious but Politicians can be very manipulative of the people below the poverty line, but what hurts to know is that the same services meant for saving these poor people (both figuratively and literally) extort them and are practically like a 'for profit' company, What worsens the situation is the cultural beliefs of many poor which have been built by a combination of superstitious beliefs and lies spread by people looking to gain advantage from them.
Manipulative nature of our "elected ones" is seen when they hire poor innocent people to do their "jobs" (I don't think I want to emphasize on this, you all get the point). When you are a poor man living below the poverty line and you see your family struggling to survive, struggling to even have a proper meal, you will take any job offered. Similar is the case with those people, taking on tasks that are illegal, crime related and restricted, but who cares as long as they get the money. What they do not realize is that from this moment on, a vicious cycle of crime starts that engulfs the poor person, transforming their innocent lives to a deceitful one. The delusional lust for money is what makes a person grow in this profession, and if his financial status is also weak then you can imagine to what lengths he can go to earn money. The more this society has gained skill, the more ways it has found leading to crime. Nevertheless, as long as the differences remain in our society, chances are poverty can never be erased.
Poor people have always suffered, in every nation, community and shockingly their own family. It's the very nature of them that makes people want to separate them out. But is it their fault? Are they to be accused of just because their fore-fathers didn't work hard enough? Surviving on just enough food to last the night, wearing worn out and tattered clothes, being judged almost every time, always being accused of a crime they may not have committed, living in cramped up spaces!!!
Do you even know what it feels like to be poor? Just try to walk in their shoes, I bet you won't last a few days. You think what pangs of hunger feel like? It isn't that feeling which you get when you miss breakfast, lunch or dinner! It very well is a feeling of helplessness, destitution and what not.
Poverty leads to attaining things from people who rightly owned it, as who rightly owned it, as a means of survival which isn't an excuse to steal from somebody else if you don't have what they have. However it is a sad reality that most of the crime are theft out of low living circumstances and cannot be helped, but it is forcing innocent people to steal from the rich in order to live just for the day.
While trying to imagine their state, efforts should be made to ensure the well being of these people. The government should create more employment opportunities for the lowest of the lowest. Although the government has worked out plans, but they fail at some point of time or are delayed. We have reached a point of time where only a miracle can help us abolish this "disease". For as long as people are infected by this disease, they will fall, fall into a dimension of darkness and helplessness; and always remember, everything that falls, breaks
